Five Pro Tips to Make Hair Coloring LastOur stylists at Southern Grace Salon and Boutique are passionate about high-quality, great-looking hair color. The perfect color can boost your confidence and mood while helping you feel more fully yourself.

One of the most common questions we get is how to make your color last longer. To help answer this, we’ve provided our five pro tips to get lasting hair coloring:

  1. Start with quality products. From the hair dye to your shampoo and everything in between, high-quality products make a difference in the life and vibrancy of your hair color. We carry a variety of quality products at the salon at every price point, and we are happy to make recommendations about which will suit your hair best.
  1. Use lukewarm water. This one is a drag! Washing and rinsing your hair with hot water opens the hair cuticle, which makes the color wash out faster. Lukewarm water keeps the cuticle sealed so the color stays put.
  1. Deep condition your hair regularly. Hair coloring can dry out hair, so making it a habit to deeply condition your hair with high-quality products specifically for treated hair will help your color look vibrant for longer.
  1. Decrease washes. Frequent hair washing makes color fade faster. Experiment with washing only two or three times a week and supplementing with dry shampoo to strike the right balance for your unique hair while protecting your hair coloring.
  1. Protect hair when heat styling. Heat is generally not great for hair coloring, but you can protect your hair with sprays, leave-in conditioners, and serums that shield your hair — and its color — from the damaging effects of your heat styling tools.
